The idea of a porch is to not only welcome the visitor but to be provide a "this is my home" feeling for the renter. Just like any room, it should express who you are. If you love modern decor, choose planters and doormats that represent the style. Make it a visual treat to set the mood before entering the sanctuary of your interior from the outside world.
For your front porch flooring. Paint it with a gloss paint so it is easy to clean and sweep up. If you want to get fancier with the flooring on your front porch, add a indoor outdoor area rug. Add plants to your front porch for more decoration. You can find some interesting plant stands to put your plants on. Plants can really make your porch area look nice. Other items that are good for porch decoration are flower vases, bird houses, wind chimes and candle holders just to mention a few.
Porch decorating according to the season is a popular trend at the moment, but with country porch style there is no need to chop and change, as the decoration will move on with the seasons naturally, if you have incorporated the idea of plants into your scheme.
These plants can take many forms using hanging baskets, flower pots and planters to, more structured foliage in the form of topiary. Using a small juniper tree variety, is perfect for this. The added advantage of using evergreen foliage (and juniper in particular), is that there will be color on your country porch, no matter what the season.
If you want more color from your plants year round, than just shades of green though, consider plants that produce berries in the colder months and flowers in spring. Or why not cheat and create your own fabric flowers arrangements for true year-round color.
Make the porch feel more like a living area by adding an area rug under the furniture. Use the same colors from the wall hangings and furniture fabrics when you select an area rug. Choose a pattern that complements the general theme of the porch. If you have a garden theme, choose a floral area rug. If you have an Americana theme, choose an area rug with a red, white and blue pattern. Use a coordinated rug runner if there is a walking route through the porch to minimize tracked-in dirt.
